Thinking of replacing your flooring, but not sure what to put down? Carpets and hardwood are both popular choices for homeowners, but which is better?

Well, carpets are soft and warm, and great for kids and older people. Hardwood floors, on the other hand, aren’t very forgiving to elbows or ankles, and they can seem a little cold and hard.

On the other hand, a carpet may become ragged and worn after a few years, whilst a hardwood floor may need some refinishing but otherwise will last for ages. It also doesn’t go out of style.

The biggest problem with carpet though is that they’re tough on people with allergies, because they’re breeding grounds for pollen, bacteria and dust. Hardwood floors, on the other hand, don’t hide anything, and their finish protects them from penetration.

That aside, carpet still remains the public’s number one choice of flooring – probably because of the “comfort” factor. Just remember that regular professional cleaning is the best way to keep them in top shape.
