Researchers say that children need to “germ sample” with other kids, from different places and environments, to build healthier natural antibodies. Having taught in a preschool with a classroom of 12 two year olds, I can say that I agree.

For example, the first full year I worked at preschool, I caught every single viral and bacterial infection going around the school, plus more. I spent every free moment in the doctor’s office and on medication. I was miserable. The second year rolled around with the dreaded H1N1 virus. I was convinced I would catch it, but I didn’t.

I thank my iron strong immune system for keeping me healthy during and after the outbreak of H1N1. I also thank my own “germ sampling” from my students for the most awesome antibodies in the world.
