Sticky weather and hot, damp conditions are a perfect means for mold and mildew to thrive. And not only is their smell unpleasant, but they can also be a real health hazard, provoking all kinds of nasty allergens. But there are always steps you can take to keep these nasty growths at bay:

  • Take fabrics outside and leave them in the sun – light and warmth are mold and mildew’s great enemy.
  • Buy a dehumidifier and put it in your basement or storage areas – it will dry out the area and stop moisture from spreading
  • You can also use small amounts of bleach to soak mildew spots on cushions, curtains, etc. Leave for 30-60 minutes then put in the washing machine.
  • Never let clothes lie around damp or wet – shake out things garments that you do want wish to iron
  • Leave your bathroom door open after you’ve taken a shower – it will help air out the place
